Dr. Karin Boyd graduated from The Ohio State College of Veterinary Medicine in 1985. After practicing for several years in Binghamton NY, she joined the Livonia Veterinary Hospital in 1992. Dr. Karin has extensive experience in small animal medicine and surgery, as well as comprehensive training in canine and feline dentistry and oral surgery. This provides the surrounding community with access to high quality dental and oral care. Patients from as far away as downstate NY have benefited from her expertise.
Dr. Karin’s out-side interests include dog training and gardening. She actively trains and competes in agility, obedience, rally, retriever hunt tests, earthdog tests and dachshund field trials. She has also recently started training and competing with her dogs in canine scent work. These hobbies give her added in-sight into the needs and concerns of competitive and performance dogs. They also make her a great resource for general training recommendations for our dog owners.
Dr Karin, her husband, and son currently share their home with a cat, Whirl, a canary, Birdlet, two longhaired dachshunds, Spree and Keeper, and two Golden Retrievers, Quest and Pika. The warm weather will find her spending hours gardening in her expansive perennial flower beds.
Compassion for the care and health of animals has been the driving force behind Dr. Karin’s veterinary career. From the tentative first steps, through the escapades of youth, to the frailties of old age, her passion is to be there to guide and help owners throughout their pet’s life journey.
Dr Joseph Wilder is a 1990 graduate of the New York State College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University. He has worked in mixed animal practice, small animal practice, done small animal relief work and spent a short time teaching at Cornell as an instructor. The majority of his time has been spent as a primary emergency doctor in referral practice in Rochester NY. He has been board certified in canine and feline practice by the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (ABVP) since 1998 and has recertified twice.
He was recently appointed as a founding fellow in emergency practice by the ABVP. He is married and has 3 adult children and lives with a menagerie of pets including 4 dogs, 2 cats, 3 horses, 3 goats and a chicken. His practice interests include emergency medicine, internal medicine and client education. He is excited to take on his new role as medical director and is looking forward to meeting all the clients and their pets.
Dr. Ken Boehm is a 1995 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine. He has worked in the veterinary industry for 29 years and enjoys supporting clients and keeping their pets healthy. When he is not at the hospital he enjoys skiing, golfing, working on puzzles of all sorts, reading, spending time with his cat, and walking his dog!
Soft-hearted, hard-working, competent, always ready for a challenge, always ready to help, Viv is a huge asset to the hospital. And she is particularly able to connect with patients on an emotional level, reducing their apprehension. Viv graduated from Genesee Community College with a degree in accounting in 2006 and went on to complete her degree in veterinary technology at Alfred State University in 2008. Although Viv’s extensive background encompasses all aspects of veterinary medicine, she particularly enjoys the intellectual challenge of internal medicine and diagnostics.
She will tell you she comes to work each day because, very simply, she loves what she does and cannot imagine herself doing anything else. Viv also loves gardening and, when not at work or looking after her cats, Fly Girl, Captain Milk Beard, Itzy Bitzy, Mr Muffin Man and Oliver (all rescues), as well as her rescued Pittie, Bubba Blu, she enjoys maintaining her varied and beautiful gardens.
Welcome Katie to our Livonia Vet team! Katie is our newest Technician and Practice Manager. She has an extensive background in emergency veterinary medicine and is now looking forward to adding hospital administrative tasks to her long list of skills! Katie is a mother to both human and fur-babies, and yes, she loves her Labs!
Mary is a licensed veterinary technician (LVT) from Denver, Colorado. She went to school at an accelerated Veterinary Technician program at Pima Medical institute and became a certified veterinary technician (CVT) in 2019. Working closely in specialty Dentistry, Anesthesiology, Cardiology, Surgery, and ICU, She has a passion for Anesthesia and Analgesia. She moved to the WNY area to be closer to family. At home, she has two cats and likes to workout, read, and play games. She will be pursuing a specialization in Anesthesia/Analgesia in the future.
If you ask one of the other receptionists how many times a day they hear the phrase ‘could I please just talk to Julie. She knows me..’ they will tell you that the times are too many to count. Julie has worked for us for over 20 years and, many will tell you, is the face of the Livonia Vet reception desk. Julie knows everyone. Julie knows every pet. And Julie connects with them all. She is the first to march out and ‘steal’ a puppy or kitten to ‘socialize it’ with hugs and kisses. Julie is mom to two grown daughters and ‘Nana’ to two wonderful granddaughters.
Julie’s favorite activity by far is to be Nana. But she also loves her home time, either reading or doing needle point. Previously a longtime beagle owner, Julie now treasures her two kitties.
When asked why she comes to work each day, Julie will tell you: Work is ‘home’ and my extended family.
Kelly Loucks, affectionately known as K-Lo is a highly capable veterinary assistant, room technician, receptionist, client liaison, and so much more. A graduate of SUNY Delhi, Kelly’s veterinary technology degree gives him an excellent knowledge base for the many roles he fills within the hospital. In addition, Kelly has obtained certification in both basic and advanced life support. His soft voice and gentle manner make him a favorite among many patients and their owners.
Kelly lives in Livonia with his Lab Greyhound mix, Letty and his two kitties, Chance and, Max. He enjoys hiking and camping.
If you ask him why he comes to work each day, Kelly will tell you he loves what he does. He loves the patients and enjoys their owners. His coworkers are his friends. He will tell you that he has always wanted to do what he is doing right now.
K-Lo is positive force for good in the practice. He is very much an integral part of our heart and culture.
