Preventive Care

Our wellness and vaccination programs are designed to prevent disease and prolong the lives of your family pets.
Annual exams facilitate disease prevention, timely diagnosis and early intervention. Remember, pets age 6-8 times faster than we do, so in one year your pet’s health can change significantly! In addition to the exam, annual recommendations for optimal health include: – Flea prevention and control – Intestinal parasite testing and prevention – Vaccinations as needed on an individual basis – Dental exam and treatment as needed – Heartworm testing and prevention Disease prevention is always less costly than treatment once your pet has developed a disease. For example, parvovirus is a very serious illness and treatment can frequently cost $1,000 or more. Additionally, despite the best efforts, treatment is not always successful in saving the dog. Yet a single parvovirus vaccination costs less than $25. Older pets should be examined every 6 months, and have a comprehensive blood chemistry analysis. Early diagnosis of a disease process can lead your pet to a longer healthier life. For example, kidney disease, if diagnosed early, will allow us to modify your dog or cat’s diet and in some cases add supplements to their diet to potentially extend their lives. There are many other conditions to which an early diagnosis is advantageous.
