Puppy Preventative Exams & Vaccines

Our puppy wellness program, extending from 6 weeks of age to approximately 6 months, focuses on health, wellness, and initial training. Included in this service is a series of examinations and vaccines, discussions about house breaking, puppy “manners,” and life long health practices.

Puppies are growing so fast that many changes can occur in just a few weeks. Remember, it takes us 20 years to reach adulthood, and puppies do all this growing 1 – 2 years! That’s another important reason, along with helping you to understand and train your puppy, for a puppy exam with each vaccine every 3-4 weeks.

Within the first 4-5 months, your puppy will be vaccinated and protected against:

  • rabies
  • distemper
  • hepatitis
  • parainfluenza
  • parvovirus
  • leptospirosis

In addition, your puppy will be tested for intestinal parasites and treated for the most common worm of puppies – roundworms. In addition to being debilitating to your puppy, this parasite is communicable to humans, especially children, so de-worming your pup is high on our agenda.

At about 6 months of age, your puppy should be spayed or neutered. This has many health benefits, can save you money over the years, and prevents unplanned litters from adding to an already excessive dog population. The spay/neuter section will give you more detail on the why and how of spaying/neutering your growing pup.
